Holy shite, this looks amazing.

Actor Park Yong Woo (of My Scary Girl, Cell Phone, Blood Rain and For Horowitz fame) has been cast in the upcoming SBS Monday-Tuesday drama “Jae Joong Won”. This is his first drama in five years. The PD is Hong Chang Wook, who was also the PD of Scale of Providence, Catch A Gangnam Mother, and Magic. The writer is none other than the great Lee Ki Won, of White Tower and Spotlight fame.

Interested yet? If not, here’s the plot: Park Yong Woo plays the son of a lower-class man living in and around the year 1885, who ends up working as a doctor for the first national Western medicine center in Korea’s history, the Jae Joong Won of the title. The drama follows his character as he learns the details of Western medicine, and gradually achieves success.

Filming begins in July, and the drama is set to premiere in August, after the upcoming Joo Jin Mo, Kim Bum and Son Dam Bi drama Dream ends its run (blergh).

1) Park Yong Woo is a great actor. Have you seen him in Blood Rain? I got chills, man. Chills. It’s just that he often winds up choosing the wrong projects, and is unable to show the true extent of his talent. But he sure chose well this time. Oh man.

2) Hong Chang Wook is a good PD. I haven’t seen Magic or Catch A Gangnam Mother, but I did see the first episode of Scale of Providence, and I was pretty impressed. So no worries there.

3) Lee. Ki. Won. Okay, Spotlight was a bit of a setback for him, but that wasn’t his fault, by any means. The script for White Tower was just stunning. PERIOD.

Any questions? No? Good.

Now if they cast the rest of the roles right, then we may just have a great drama on our hands. I AM SO EXCITED.

Biggest issue is if SBS lets them make a great drama. ㅋㅋ

I’ve heard Lee completed the script around the 왕과 나 days (although it probably was a complete, post-treatment synopsis), and the subject is really fascinating, if a tad reminiscent of the Lee Je-Ma drama (sure as hell will be better written).

Park Yong-Woo in sageuk mode = gold. And Hong Chan-Ok is the most exciting talent SBS produced since… uh, wait. SBS never produced exciting talent. I smell another 허준….

    Chan-Wook… even.
